It does what it can with the funds it has.
What i would like to see here in Sheboygan is more programs which cover a wider range of inpatient care for those who could benefit from a residental program- again with the focus there being returning home- not to an institution, not to a group home. Home.
So that leaves the person scrambling what to do.
However, we as Sheboygan County are sore lacking in mental health care itself. The MHA does promote good mental health. It also has sources, etc that it can refer its clients for needed treatment- inpatient and outpatient.
I have heard some success stories with Rogers Memorial Services, it is all mental health, dealing with all dynamics of services and mental health challenges. There services range anywhere from residential programs to support groups, workshops, outpatient care similiar to that which Aurora offers, etc.
Rogers does promote healthy living and preparation for life outside of a facility when discharged. They work closely with their clients to ensure all needs are met.
I recall when Rocky Knoll was available for long term mental health care. But just because someone needs more than a few days of inpatient treatment does not mean they should be bound to an institution. Nor does it mean that they should be subjected to being forced to reside in a group home, where they can clash with other people, and made to feel as though they are no longer able to care for themselves.
I would like to take this time to do 2 things. I would like to commend MHA for all that it does for mental health- and i do believe other brain issues. Or struggles that an adult faces.
Aurora has its behavioral health wing for inpatient care; there focus is stabilzing the patient for discharge within 3- 4 days. However, there is a severe uptick in what i have seen as people who frequently are in and out of this inpatient service, leaving a person to ponder, just how effective are there services? There is no long term care available for mental health in Sheboygan County other than Turning Point Center, i believe run by Human Services.
Once again, MHA, thank you for all that you do.
The differance is they certainly have more resources to tap. More psychiatrists, more therapists, more psycholgists.
I do not know of any support groups or many therapists that help with eating disorders or self destructive tendencies. There is Aurora with its intensive outpatient program and partial hospitalization program and there is Human Services for its dialectical behavioral program. However, i have seen many people either fall between the cracks, dont have adequate insurance to cover theses expenses or just not mesh well with the programs due to noncompliance, worsening symptoms, etc.
I would really commend MHA for laying out this idea and possibly recommending or advocating it.
The MHA does alot for the people who use its Open Door drop in Center. It also has some workshops, support groups, events, forums, education, etc.
